What is the American word for rain boots?

In New Zealand, we call them gumboots; in England they're called wellingtons. But what do Americans call them?

What is the American word for rain boots?
Well,when I was a kid, the floppy things that fit OVER shoes were called, "rubbers."


Rainboots are ....RAINBOOTS. Sorry....no cool name.

Reply:In the USA they used to call rubber shoes that fit over street shoes, "rubbers", but that has gone out of vogue. In the north, we call them galoshes (esp for use in snow), "waders" for deeper water, "duck boots, or just plain "boots". We also call them "Wellingtons" for a particular style...

Reply:It sort of depends on where in the States you are from. I've always called them 'rain boots.' My grandmother called them galoshes. My mother called them rubbers. I've also heard them called mud boots, garden boots, and overs.
