I know it isn't in Toronto but there is a fabulous place in Vancouver called Gumdrops. www.gumdrops.ca. I bought two pairs and absolutely love puddle jumping with my two girls. I hope this helps.

It depends on the style of rainboot. If you wear traditional boots (the calf-high style), then no, you'd wear them alone and carry your shoes. If they are "overboots or overshoes" then you wear them over the shoes.

Are rain boots, "wellies," supposed to be a little big on the wearer?

I just purchased a pair, and they only come in whole sizes. I have a half an inch of room, but it is just enough to be noticeable and flop about inside when I walk. The size below feels better, but it isn't even the size of my other shoes, like literally, I measured them. So if I wore those smaller ones it wouldn't be like the size I was used to wearing. Any advice, or personal outcomes on this situation? Thank you, I am very eager to hear what you have to say.

If your boots are white, then use fluid acrylics. If they're black or a darker colour, use a heavy body medium acrylic. If you like the colour concentration that fluid acrylics offer, then paint the designs with white heavy body, and your colours on top.

How do I wear flared jeans with rain boots?

As lame as this sounds...I finally got my first pair of rainboots last night (after kindergarten). Anyway, my boots are the kind that don't have any buckles on them to adjust the size and I only own flared jeans. Am I supposed to squish my jeans in the boots or should I fold them up? I personally like to have it tucked it but it takes so much effort and at the end, my jeans kinda scrunch up to my knees. =\

Go oldskool and tightroll your jeans (the art of folding over the bulk of the flare and then rolling them up) and fit the boots over them that way. They'll scrunch less this way also.

With any kind of boots, tucking in always looks best. Otherwise your feet end up looking huge. Why not buy a great pair of skinny jeans to tuck into all your boots?

ok seriously- in NYC you LIVE for rainboots. Its the only way to avoid getting your pants and feet wet when the main mode of transportation here is walking.





If you are in any other city it may not be as popular but thats ok. Who cares what other people think. You may want to reconsider wearing them for long periods of time (for fashion vs rainy days) as they really arent fitted with arches and pads to support your feet and they will get soar quickly.





For the record mine are cream witha blue, green and orange plaid!

Reply:first off, you will get way more fashion street cred if you refer to them as "wellies", not rainboots. i go to school with a girl who has authentic burberry wellies. she wears them with jeans tucked in and a simple tee on rainy days. if you are a little hesitant to rock this look, do what i do instead. wear a bright colored (mine is light blue) mac or macintosh. this is the grown up term for raincoat. trench is also acceptable to refer to this item. i often get compliments on the mac, because it stands out as a bright spot in a sea of gray as other students trudge around campus.

Currently, i placed a fabric softener sheet in each boot while still being outside, I will tell you if it actyually works, still experimenting.....

Reply:mix baking soda, baby powder and corn starch together and rub it all over the boots, then let it sit over night.
Reply:Gasoline, just brush it onto the boots and the gas smell should overpower the rubber.
Reply:Rub the rubber parts with vanilla extract, then put some vanilla on a paper towel and put inside the boot overnight.
Reply:febreeze will destroy the rubber. let them sit outside for a while, maybe a couple hours at the least, but make sure it's in the shade, or the strong sun might wear away the color. Good luck. (:

I collect wellie boots and wear them often for my weekend jobs. Target and Walmart do have a great range of patterns and colors for cheap, but to be honest, they are not quite as good on the details as some designer labels. I wear my rainboots from Target if I need to look cool but am at risk of finding myself all messy!





On the other hand, Burberry, Thomas Pink and Pucci make poppin wellies but charge a big markup for their brand prestige.





A couple of brands that have super-cute patterns that I collect are designers Jeffrey Campell and Tamara Henriques ... you can get both at dllrainwear.com. The original Hunter Wellies come in several great shades and colors ... they're very hip right now with the "in" set in New York City and London. I've listed all the websites below.

My sister gave me the cutest pink rainboots for Christmas. They're the rubber type that are a little shiny. These have a bold black pattern on them.

If the pants are not made of rubber or something slick that repels water why would the water run down into the pants tucked into the boot? On the other hand if its not raining terribly hard and the pants are not very long, it might be preferable to leave them outside the boot.

I haven't been to any of these stores recently but that's where I go for inexpensive clothes/shoes. If your budget is limitless (which I'm assuming it isn't since you asked for cheap ones) then you can always find anything you could ever need at Harrod's. There's a shoe shop at Georgia State at the corner of Jesse Jewel and Peachtree(I think) ANyway, it's on the corner with Kell Hall. If you look up Kell hall on Yahoo, find the one that takes you to Jesse Jewell. I don't know if they sell rainboots, but you can get the number and ask them before you go. I just know they have great shoes.

They look fine to me; just be sure to get them big enough, since a woman's seven (for instance) is two sizes smaller than a man's seven. If you wear a size nine, then you'd need a woman's size eleven.

Reply:Hah those are cute. I worked at kid's shoes in Nordstrom for a year and they had frog rainboots very similar to those. A size 7 in women's is a size 5 in kids and I believe the rainboots run a little big. I'm not sure if they have them anymore, but it's always worth it to ask. A lot of the time, there are things in that back stock room that are so old and not even on the website anymore. Find some Nordstroms and ask if they have any left! The salespeople will be more than willing to look for you. If they don't have them, they can always look up the barcode and search other stores too. And I don't believe they are more than $30.

I'm going to the snow next month for a little relaxing vacation and I have a pair of rain boots... those cutsie ones... and I'm wondering... are they safe in the snow? Does the rubber make it slippery?

my dad wore rain boots out in the snow for about an hour or two a few winters ago and got some minor frost bite on his toes. they are deffinantly not warm. so if your only going to be in the cold for a little bit and ware warm socks it should be ok. but not for any prolonged time.
Reply:They are safe and snow, and they will keep your feet dry, however since they are made for rain, they will not be that warm.
Reply:The rubber does make them slippery, very, very slippery. They are probably not safe in the snow because of the tread design (or lack of) on the soles. Also most snow near a ski lodge will be packed down from other guests walking their boots. Try a used equipment shop, for a pair of snowboard boots in your size. They are warm, good traction, fairly waterproof, and easy to walk about. No need to go snowboarding, but their boots are easier to walk in than ski boots.

Rain boots in Europe?

I'm going to Scotland, Ireland, and England for two weeks. I know it is wet and mushy a lot of the time, so I was wondering if I should get rain boots?





The ones I'm looking at are for horse stuff, too, which would be good for me, since I ride. So, should I spend $70 on a nice pair? Or is it too much?

Unless you are going into a lot of fields you will not need them on holiday.


If you are going to do a lot of hikes you will need hiking boots, not horse-riding boots, otherwise you just need normal shoes.


All of the streets you come as a tourist are surfaced, mostly tarmac but in the traditional parts of old town it can be cobblestones too.





$70 for a pair of riding boots sounds a little expensive, but the point is that you will not want to carry them around unless you are going to do riding and horse-care in the UK and Ireland.
